About
Founder, Northeast Projects / Phius CPHC and Phius trainer
I started Northeast Projects in [year] to bring building science into the design process early, when it can still shape the building rather than just grade it. Since then I have worked on more than 50 Phius projects and over 75 high-performance projects, from single-family homes in the Hudson Valley to multifamily buildings across the Northeast.
I also teach architecture at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and speak regularly, sharing what we learn on site with the people designing and building the next generation of projects.

Our purpose
Better buildings come from better questions, thoughtful collaboration, continuous learning, and bringing the right expertise to the table.
Our purpose is not simply to achieve high-performance standards, but to make exceptional building performance more accessible, practical and achievable. We connect people and disciplines, assemble specialized teams around the particular needs of each project, and use what we learn to improve our practice and the broader industry.
Our values
Humility
We listen before prescribing solutions. Good ideas come from architects, builders, owners, tradespeople and occupants.
Commitment to learning
We approach unfamiliar problems with curiosity, test assumptions, document lessons and share what we discover.
Integrity
We give clear, candid advice, communicate our limitations, honor commitments, and recommend what serves the project, not what creates more fees.
Our commitments
Purpose over volume
We favor assignments where our expertise changes the outcome.
Performance made accessible
We challenge unnecessary material, labor and consulting costs, seeking elegant, cost-effective routes to high performance.
Designed for construction
Our recommendations have to survive real budgets, schedules, workmanship, sequencing and site conditions.
Expertise curated for each project
We listen carefully, define the real problem, and bring in independent specialists when their knowledge adds value.
Teaching what we learn
We make time for writing, teaching, training and sharing practical lessons from projects.
Generous and selective
We reserve capacity for mission-driven projects and clients whose work matters, even without large budgets.
